| Cadbury at Cherry Hill |
Last week, we introduced you to the concept of
continuing
care retirement communities (CCRCs). This week, we’re going to highlight what makes Cadbury
different from other CCRCs – our history, our Quaker philosophy and roots,
and our Lifecare plan.
Cadbury has a long history in the community of South
Jersey. In the late 1970s, members of
the Philadelphia Yearly Meeting of the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers)
were interested in creating a continuing care retirement community for
individuals of modest means. They
received a certificate of incorporation for a new corporation, named Friends
Manor, in September of 1977. Shortly
thereafter, the name of the organization was formally changed to Cadbury
Corporation, after Henry Joel Cadbury, a well-renowned Quaker historian,
scholar, and non-profit administrator.
