Excellent Healthcare to Keep You Independent

For many, one of the draws of a continuing care retirement community like Cadbury Senior Lifestyles, Cherry Hill, is the knowledge that one day when you need help to maintain your independence, you can do so in a community that supports your every want and need – dining, events, health care services, socialization, and more, all under one roof.

One way that Cadbury residents stay healthy is by taking advantage of the on-site medical resources. Residents can stop by the physician’s office for their annual wellness check up on their way to exercise, shop or dine. In addition to the resources available to the independent residents, Cadbury’s health care offerings include assisted living and a skilled nursing center, all overseen by Dr. Anita Chopra, Cadbury’s medical director and her team of geriatricians who specialize in the care of older adults.

In addition to serving as Cadbury’s medical director, Dr. Chopra is a Professor of Medicine at the Rowan School of Osteopathic Medicine, Director of the New Jersey Institute for Successful Aging, and the William J. Rohrer Endowed Chair in Geriatrics. Dr. Chopra’s impressive résumé has one main focus. Dr. Chopra stated, “We want to make sure that older adults maintain their function and independence as long as possible.

How does she help seniors stay active and independent? Dr. Chopra focuses on overall well-being, not just one aspect of health. “It’s clearly been shown that people who exercise on a regular basis, maintain their social interaction, stay mentally active and are optimistic can age better.”

Dr. Chopra praised Cadbury Senior Lifestyles, Cherry Hill’s health care offerings, saying, “We really value our relationship with Cadbury because they offer a very nice continuum of services.

What Does It Mean to Be a Continuing Care Retirement Community?

Cadbury at Cherry Hill provides affordable
luxury and peace of mind.
A continuing care retirement community, or CCRC, is a special type of residence where a person can live within a campus and have his or her needs met, regardless of any future health or wealth concerns. A CCRC traditionally offers independent living, assisted living, memory care, and skilled health care, which allow the CCRC to meet the needs of all residents as they move through the aging process.  In addition to meeting health needs, CCRCs aim to nurture spiritual, emotional, social, and nutritional needs through their amazing activities, events, and dining program.

Many families eat dinner together every night, and the staff and residents of Cadbury at Cherry Hill, a retirement community in Cherry Hill, New Jersey, are no exception. Wanting to spice up the resident’s dinner hour, Dining Services Director John Hanstein created a monthly event called, “Cooking with Poppy.”

“Cooking with Poppy,” so named thanks to Hanstein’s grandchildren, is an interactive event in which residents are able to watch Hanstein cook a meal in order to learn the steps to create popular, easy-to-cook dishes. Before the event, Hanstein passes out a recipe so residents can follow along.
