Hello Dolly! Residents Star in Musical-Inspired Calendar

“Do you want to pose as a model?” a sign posted to the community board at Cadbury Senior Lifestyles, Cherry Hill, asked residents in October. As residents began to take notice of the scant sign, phone calls to Cherry Hill’s Director of Activities Agnes Tan—whose number was listed on the flier—indicated that the collective answer from the community was a resounding “yes!”

When Agnes took phone calls from interested residents, she gauged their interest in a calendar project. The more she spoke with them, the more interested they became in starring in the Cherry Hill, New Jersey, community’s first resident calendar.

Cadbury at Cherry Hill to Celebrate Sukkot

As the leaves start to change from green to gold, days become shorter and the air becomes a little more crisp, many of us turn our thoughts to the fall season. For Jewish families, this natural transition is the “Season of our Joy” or Sukkot, pronounced “Sue COAT.” The holiday officially begins at sunset on Oct. 8 and ends Oct. 15 at nightfall. Sukkot is a traditional Jewish holiday to remember the 40 years that their ancestors spent wandering from Egypt to Israel in the dessert—all while living in temporary shelters. This seven-day celebration is a joyful holiday rich in traditions and many look forward to the holiday throughout the year, including residents at Cadbury at Cherry Hill.

Why Now? Cadbury at Cherry Hillʼs Location Beats the Rest

In real estate, three things are of utmost value: location, location, location. Cadbury at Cherry Hill is ideally situated, just minutes from Philadelphia. Excellent opportunities for shopping, for continuing education, and for health care are literally right next door. And with proximity to public transportation as well as major highways, itʼs easy to hop in the car or catch a train, whether youʼre headed to a museum in Philadelphia, a ball game in Trenton, a jaunt to the Jersey Shore, or a show in New York. The East Coast is your playground. You simply lock your door and go!

Cherry Hill itself is a great place to call home. Money magazine named it one of the best towns to live in, and the same survey ranked Cherry Hill the eighth-safest town in the country. Add to the equation beautiful neighborhoods, streets lined with blossoming cherry trees, and fine restaurants, and the sum is one fine community.

Resident Profile: Sharon Zollers

Sharon Zollers
For Cadbury at Cherry Hill resident Sharon Zollers, volunteering isn’t something you do once a year around the holidays, or something you spend a few hours doing once in a while. It’s a lifestyle.

Sharon has been volunteering almost her whole life. She took a break while she was raising her children, but once they were in school, she started volunteering for hospice, and she hasn’t stopped since. Once she started working full-time and could no longer volunteer with hospice, Sharon became more involved with her church, where many of her current volunteer efforts stem.

The Quaker Philosophy & Cadbury at Cherry Hill

Members of the Religious Society of Friends, also known as Quakers, founded Cadbury at Cherry Hill in 1978. Their philosophies, including social justice, peace and equality, continue to guide the way Cadbury at Cherry Hill operates.

“We look at our understanding the tenets and beliefs of the Quakers and try to apply that. One of the basic things Quakers believe is that there is God in each of us, so everyone is equal. We’re very non-discriminatory. We’re welcoming to all faiths, religions, races, genders, sexual orientations, cultures—everything. We also look at individuals as they age and become more frail, we make sure they are treated with respect and dignity. We apply that in everything that we do,” said Vic Amey, Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives (FACHE), president & CEO of Cadbury Senior Services (the parent company of Cadbury at Cherry Hill).

What Makes Cadbury Different?

Cadbury at Cherry Hill
Last week, we introduced you to the concept of continuing care retirement communities (CCRCs). This week, we’re going to highlight what makes Cadbury different from other CCRCs – our history, our Quaker philosophy and roots, and our Lifecare plan.

Cadbury has a long history in the community of South Jersey. In the late 1970s, members of the Philadelphia Yearly Meeting of the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers) were interested in creating a continuing care retirement community for individuals of modest means. They received a certificate of incorporation for a new corporation, named Friends Manor, in September of 1977. Shortly thereafter, the name of the organization was formally changed to Cadbury Corporation, after Henry Joel Cadbury, a well-renowned Quaker historian, scholar, and non-profit administrator.

What Does It Mean to Be a Continuing Care Retirement Community?

Cadbury at Cherry Hill provides affordable
luxury and peace of mind.
A continuing care retirement community, or CCRC, is a special type of residence where a person can live within a campus and have his or her needs met, regardless of any future health or wealth concerns. A CCRC traditionally offers independent living, assisted living, memory care, and skilled health care, which allow the CCRC to meet the needs of all residents as they move through the aging process.  In addition to meeting health needs, CCRCs aim to nurture spiritual, emotional, social, and nutritional needs through their amazing activities, events, and dining program.

Why I like Cadbury

As I looked at the snow driven scene outside my living room window, I made a decision that changed my life. I moved to Cadbury. I had been to several promotional lunches in the past two years and also visited friends who lived there. Why should I dread the coming winter with high heat and electric bills – not to mention other expenses such as taxes, sewer, and water bills? I called my children and told them I was moving to Cadbury. This was my decision, not theirs.

Why Cadbury?

Several years ago it became apparent that I was having trouble crawling under cars, keeping the lawn mowers operating, keeping the grass cut and keeping up with the maintenance around the house. My wife was also starting to have knee problems. We decided that it was time to look around for a place to really retire. We started looking around at the various continuing care retirement communities. My parents had lived at one for about 10 years, but we didn’t like several of the conditions at the place where they were. Other places didn’t provide independent living apartments while other places were too far from the neighborhood with which we wanted to remain in contact. Expense was an issue for others. We had received previous invitations to social events at Cadbury, but couldn’t quite fit in the time. It wasn’t until we received an invitation to an ice cream social that we decided we could make the time to check it out.
